The Pearl of the Orient has an enticing mix of old and new treats. Georgetown is crammed with shops housed in pre-war buildings selling textile, apparels, food, jewellery, antiques and curios.

The Little India district is well known for its gold and gem bazaar, colourful silk sarees and aromatic spices while Chowrasta is the oldest bazaar selling a hodge podge of unique local delicacies and textiles.

Lively night markets can be found all over the islandone of the biggest being in Batu Ferringi. Other noteworthy street markets are the Lorong Kulit flea mart and the Little Penang Street Market at Upper Penang Road where antiques, crafts, plants, jewellery and food can be bought.

The island’s shopping malls like Penang Times Square, Gurney Plaza, Prangin Mall, Island Plaza, Queensbay Mall and Sunshine Square brim with popular local and international labels to cater for mall shoppers.
